Hours later, after visiting the last of the physical properties on the holdings list and enjoying a sumptuous salmon dinner at the fanciest restaurant in Winter Harbor, we were back to moony-eyed teenager status.
Iâd drank half a bottle of wine with dinner in an effort to avoid thinking about all the tension between Callum and the town, so I was feeling equal parts wound up and dreamy. Because it had been easy to get lost in Callumâs gaze over a gourmet dinner. A little too easy to get lost in the dreamy ideas of what might come next, now that he was back in town for a year and things seemed to be thawing between us.
Hand in hand, we wandered out of Chez Hiver and down the sidewalk. Once Callum had paid, Iâd made the decision to move our party to my place.
âMy car is this way,â Callum said, pointing toward the parking lot.
âYes, but my condo is right over there.â I tipped my head toward the side street where my home sweet home lay. âAnd I think we should go there.â
His handsome grin told me he knew exactly what I was getting at. We strolled under the amber lights illuminating the sidewalk, and when I shivered, Callum pulled me tighter into his arms. It was a dizzying blend of past and present. At our cores, we were still the versions of ourselves weâd fallen in love with, but also new and different, practically strangers meeting by chance.
Once we made it into the cozy nest of my condo, Callum had me backed up against the door, kissing my face off. His kisses were warm and thorough, tinged with red wine and lust. We broke for air after a few moments. The thick ridge of his cock pressed into my hip and I palmed it, lifting a brow.
He smirked. âDonât I at least get the grand tour before you tear my clothes off?â
âYou were here earlier when I changed after my run.â
âYou made me wait on the patio.â
I batted my eyelashes and led him by the hand deeper into my condo. It was trueâI hadnât wanted him to see my place in less-than-perfect condition. But now that I was drunk and horny, I did not care.
It was an open floor plan, so it didnât take much leading around. I gestured broadly in front of me. âHere is the living room, kitchen, and dining room.â
Callum nodded, stuffing his hands into his pockets. âGreat.â
âWant to see the bedroom?â
âObviously.â
I led him into my softly illuminated oasis, with the raised king bed, excessively soft mauve bedding, tasseled throw pillows that were a pain in the ass to move each night, even though I loved how they looked in the daytime.
An appreciative smile curled at his lips. âNice.â
âItâs no inherited mansion, but itâs home,â I said, throwing my arms around his waist.
He smiled down at me, his fingers threading through my hair at the base of my neck. He tugged gently before pausing. Something vibrated between us.
